Knob-and-tube wiring was standard in homes built from the 1880s through the 1940s. Alot of homes in Saco, Biddeford, and Kennebunk still have it. While it wasnt a problem when it was new, knob-and-tube wiring is not designed for modern electrical loads and can be a serious fire hazard — especially if insulation has been blown over it.
Why Remove Knob-and-Tube?
Insurance companies are increasingly refusing to insure homes with active knob-and-tube wiring. Home inspectors flag it. And if you ever want to properly insulate your home, the knob-and-tube has to go first because it needs air space to dissipate heat. We remove knob-and-tube and replace it with modern Romex wiring that meets current code.
